My mom is having financial difficulties so she can not buy me snacks for school so I'm super hungry after school.

We created Rae’s Hope to prevent child hunger and the lack of elderly adults who go without necessities.

Rae’s Hope will make sure underprivileged children's needs are met so they can feel support, focus at every level and excel to their highest potential without worrying about food insecurity. The elderly will have basic necessities, new found companionship from volunteers that want to give back to the community.

I'For every $25.00 donated, we are able to service 15 elementary children with healthy snacks such as trail mix, granola, fruit, muffins, etc. in the Blackbelt school area.

"Rae’s Hope made sure my kids have a healthy snack at school."
"My kids are no longer ashamed when it's time for snacks because they are no longer left out"

I now have a house coat to cover myself in the mornings and house shoes to keep my feet warm from the cold floors in my room.
The Founder

I am Wendy Black, a Special Education Teacher. During my college and career years, I’ve met some amazing kindhearted, caring, and generous individuals. Shimeka Cannon is one of those individuals. I’ve known Shimeka for over 20 years. When she shared her desire to start this amazing
organization, I was not surprised, even by the title of the organization “Rae’s Hope”. Shimeka has always been supportive of schools, programs, family, friends, and anyone in need. She is always compassionate, dedicated to serving, and kind. She never misses an opportunity to help others. I recall her donating snacks to her son’s class for a whole year, to ensure that no one was left out. Shimeka’s display of awareness, concerns, generosity, compassion, commitment, and kindness is what inspired Rae’s Hope. Shimeka’s servant heart is needed and most definitely appreciated in her growing community.

The nonprofit world is a new realm for me. My desire to make a positive impact has compelled me to step outside of my comfort zone. I have dreams and ideas and feel the need to help people less fortunate. Sometimes accomplishing goals and making dreams come true can be a challenge; however I know that it will be rewarding when they come to fruition.
I look forward to gaining more knowledge as I embark upon this new journey of serving the community.
Rae’s Hope is an organization that people can rely on and use as a stepping stone if necessary. This organization will also encourage others to make their dreams come true and together we can build and grow. My commitment to the fulfillment of the mission of Rae’s Hope will contribute to the sustainability of households and the overall wellbeing of its consumers.
I believe a journey is more meaningful with trials and tribulations along the way. We the people are all connected and together we can do so much more. Open your hearts and connect with Rae’s Hope and let’s continue to lift each other up and make everlasting changes. My name is Shimeka Cannon and I hope to service your needs.
